BM Steel are well established in their industry, but their B2B eCommerce efforts were falling behind; they were hamstrung by their platform. Although the old site looked the part, under the bonnet it was full of problems that BM Steel were having to pay to rectify. Worse still, they couldn’t mitigate high Pay Per Click costs with Search Engine Optimisation because the platform couldn’t handle their requirements.

That’s where Iconography and IXO Commerce came in.

We took the time to understand the business and its clients. With a focus on user experience and ease of use, Iconography completely redesigned the approach to building and selling products.

Today, BM Steel enjoy a proper enterprise eCommerce website, built on a truly flexible platform. This lets them adapt to the day to day realities and pressures of B2B retail quickly and easily. The new platform provides every tool they need to succeed online. 

Looking forwards, they have big plans. Switching to IXO Commerce has cut their operating costs by 80%, freeing up the budget for enhanced integrations, app development and additional web projects.

We've built four websites for the BM Steel family in just one year. Two of them are fully eCommerce, and they're managed through a single CMS, which means half the work to manage them!



An interview with BM Steel

We asked eCommerce Manager Craig Silvain for his opinion on IXO Commerce, Iconography and how we compare against his previous platform. 


Why Iconography?

It came down to experience and price; you have a great track record with B2B.

The team took to time to come down and experience the company first hand which you can see helped in the build process.

We were looking for a simple interface to run the sites from, keeping it simple means that new recruits can join and learn the program quickly.

How was the project?

It was all very professionally managed; the team were always able to answer any questions we had, any issues we come up against were resolved.

I really enjoyed the problem solving aspect, e.g. “here are your solutions, but this is what can happen elsewhere - what do you want to do?”

Everything was really well thought out. 

How does it compare?

It is so much easier than our old site. It is far simpler to manage multiple sites from one dedicated CMS and we are able to set things up and distribute to the correct site in a matter of moments; our staff feel confident in updating and using the whole website.

Even better, the platform is designed in such a way that we can start thinking about the next upgrade or project and know it will bolt on with no issues.
